The importance of them being racially segregated is that it shows that even though they are black they still get more respect than others. I think that by having the story told from a black person's point of view it shows the struggles that some of them are forced to go through but at the same time the privalages they are given and the respect that they recieve. At the time the story is told they are dealing with the Apartheid, which deals with racial seperation and disagreements. One way people were brought together was through the church, lead by the priests.

The importance of them being racially segregated is that it demonstrates both leniency when it comes to race, but also the inequality between races in that the blacks were paid less and treated worse. Because a main theme in this story was segregation, it acted as a gap in this theme, showing the reader that church was an exception.

The importance of priests being racially intergrated is so that they can get more respect in the church and from other people.

The importance of the priest being racially integrated is showing that even though he is African he still gets a lot of respect from others. The story is also at the time of a racial segregation which means that all races are separated.

This shows the racial tension in Afirca and how the people were teated different from each other, like getting paid and just how blacks were treated in general.

it shows the priests or any kind of profession can be any type or race of person it shows eguallity or uneguality because sometimes they think that the white man is better than the black man like when they needed a doctor mr. dubula said a black doctor was coming and they wished it weould be a white doctor but they were still just happy that there was a doctor coming because thier baby was in bad condition he had a bad fever and was surly going to die if they didnt get any medical attention.

The importance of the priests being racially integrated shows how even though the priests are different races the church is one place where no matter what race you are everyone can come together. In the story it shows how things in the towns are seperated between races and how the different races do not get along. Having the priests be integrated shows how the races can get along no matter what you just have to believe in something.

The importance of them being racial segregated is to show how in that time the world was still in racial segreation, with seperate and unequal laws.

The main part of this story is Segregation. Period.

The importance of the priests being racially integrated is to show that even though there is segregation throughout the continent, the church does not suffer from such problems.

The priests are integrated because they speak the word of god and its the same whether you are white or black

The importance of the priests being racially segregated is that when their followers fall from the church they will feel more comfortable returning to their own kind. This is to help those who falter gain gonfidence to go back to the church instead of stay in Johannesburg and lose their morality.

this is important because it shows that the church is taking steps towards improvment and ending racisim

dcarr said...

the purpose of the preists being racially integrated is to show that in any situation they get respect

dcarr said...

this shows that race does not decide class

yasdnil said...

In this time the priests got more respect for being segregated.

A.Lohr-This shows that no matter what the priests will always have respect from everyone.

i agree with kim that this helps give the preist some respect

the importance of the priests being racially integrated, is that it is one step closer to having a town with equality and without segregation, if the church believes in integration, then people will follow

The whole point in this book is racial segregation. Afrikaans were treated differently no matter where they went. I agree with David when he said "they can reach out to their culture better then other races of priests". Because at that point in time, white church members would probably prefer a white priest.

neemesh said...

i agree with dcarr, it shows that even in integration, priests get more respect because of the position that they carry

There is segregation in society and in the cities. With Religion it allows all races salvation and there is a God for all, so you can't segregate it.

At this time the world is still racially segregated and it shows how the world is unequal and segregated.

The importance of pirests being racially integrated within the text is that segregation is a main theme in this story, even though the priest are white and black, they both preach the word of god and have the same intentions.

The importance of the racially segregated priests is that the Author wanted to show that church is the one place that everyone can be together.

Kelly said...

The importance of the priests being racially integrated is that it is the very beginning of the ending of segregation. Even if it is just a small group of people, the fact priests of different races can get along and work together without segregation, people may be able to get past their ideas of racial heirarchy and be able to end segregation.

Allie said...

The church may be one of the few places in Johannesburg where all of the races can come together.

i think kim is fight having the story told from a black persons point of view is great because it shows their struggles and the tensions throughout Africa at the time

Ylrac said...

The priests being integrated will be an important factor in the book now because the conflict of a black man shooting a white man will most likely seperate the races even more. The priests being of different races working together will be needed to keep the races of the people close together too.

Semi says..... I agree with pawl when he says that the church is starting to take steps toward improving rascism

The importance of the priest being racially intergrated with in the story is that the africans can still get respect under a white mans laws. It also implies the stuggle many africans have to go through to get accepted in the society.

Anonymous said...

The idea of integration among the priests is important because God does not favor one race over another.

Jonny said...

Even though priests are racially integrated, they still recieve respect from other races due to the position that they hold.

Jonny said...

I agree with allie's comment that the church is one place in Johanessburg where all of the races can come together and be equals.

Anonymous said...

i agree with kelly that, this is the turn ing point for them, hopefully by using the priests as examples the races can mix.

The impirtance of the priests being racially segregated is the same as the citizens being racially segregated. It shows that Africans ans Afrikaaners have different levels of freedom and rights depending where they are. As priests were considered the highest class so seperating them shows that its not a seperation of the classes its a seperation of the races.

Priests being racially integrated within the stories shows some area of equality. While other things may be segregated, religion isn't. It teaches faith in being together and showing it to others.

i am also agreeign with kelly and mary kate that this is the turning point for them and by using the priests as examples the races can become more together or mixed.

Priests are typically role models of their communities, so people around them pay attention to ther actions and statements. It is important for the priests to be racially integrated in this story, because the people around them will see different races working well together and be influenced by this. This influence is very significant for the time period in the story, because at this time segregation was just beginning to ended.

I also wanted to mention that priests being of different races could show people that a different race can do a job and complete a task equally as well as another.
